No Fall-Composting-Voting-Book Banning

That’s a lot, I know! Bare with me. 😊

“Y’all who follow me know I dearly love Fall. I’ve traveled to New England for many years in search of the perfect Fall, which I’ve been privileged to discover on numerous trips. We do generally get Fall in North Texas, but not until November. This year we still have summer going on this week. A tiny cool front is sliding in next Monday which will get us back to more normal September temperatures—mid to upper 80s with an occasional 90, but the key is our evening temps drop into the low 70s and upper 60s. WhoHoo!!

So how do I deal with this? I put up my Fall decorations right after Labor Day. And they make me smile regardless of what the outside temp is. See pics throughout this post.

VULNERABLE Update: I sent the ms to my editor last Friday afternoon. So relieved to get to that point in the process. I’ve taken a few days off—like I watched a Hallmark movie yesterday afternoon and Wednesday watched Dancing with the Stars, which meant I figured out how to get Disney Plus. Quite an accomplishment for me!  Hallmark & Dancing were delightful, and I didn’t even feel guilty. 😊 Next I need to do the front and back matter: the copywrite page, acknowledgments, author bio, and other books. Generally, that means updating whatever I used in the last book, but it has to be done. So it’s on my To-Do List.

Fort Worth has as Composting program. A friend at church told me about it, and Tuesday I picked up my kit. Two containers. One I’ve put in my refrigerator. So glad I could rearrange for that. I don’t have much counter space which is where they suggested putting it. The other larger one is in my washroom area. It’s the one I’ll take to the drop off spot. Several are close to me, so I will experiment with which one is easier. I’ve been struck by how much food I throw out! Not good for the planet at all. I’ll keep you posted on how this works out.

This spot in the ice box is the perfect space for my collection container.

The election is getting closer. Please check the deadline for Voter Registraion. The dates vary by state. For Texas your registration must be postmarked by October 11 for this year.  Here’s a link where you can check the date for your state: Voter registration deadlines, 2022 – Ballotpedia Our very democracy hinges on us voting. I try not to get political, but sometimes you just have to speak out. People who deny the results of an election are not good for democracy. We have elections, and sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I’ve done both. Losing is terrible, and winning is so much more fun. But when you lose, you concede to the candidate who got the most votes. That’s how democracy works. If that doesn’t happen, we don’t have a democracy.

Wednesday was Banned Book Day. The Keller Library posted about banned books on Facebook. The city council of this smaller city in the metroplex made them take it down. The council didn’t want to seem to be taking sides on the issue of banned books! Generally you’ll find libraries, librarians, and authors are against any kind of censorship. Nobody makes you read a book, but because you find issues with a particular book, shouldn’t give you the right to tell anyone else they can’t read it. You can make decisions for yourself and for your minor kids, but not anyone else. You don’t like a book your child is required to read in school? Talk to the teacher and find a substitute book you are comfortable with, but don’t tell that whole class, that school, that school district, they can’t read the book!!! End of Soapbox! (I’d have put off this topic until next week to have more time with it, but I have a Guest in the Next I’m excited to share with you.)

Do you have experience with Composting? Has Fall begun where you live? Do you decorate for Fall? Are you registered to vote? Have you ever read a banned book? Lots of questions and as always, I’d love to hear from you.
